Eman Sunar, from the organization Saathi Nepal, led two 2-hour workshops for the women at the Chelsea Center on the topic of domestic violence . Eman, who is trained as a lawyer in Nepal and has worked in the development sector for many years, presented many of the issues related to domestic violence and its causes, consequences and remedies, including ways how one can fight legally if facing such circumstances. The workshop was conducted in Nepali and was really informative; we plan to invite him back again for future workshops.
This morning our own Kabita Karki led a workshop on violence against women. During the workshop, the women discussed what they would do in various scenarios involving domestic violence, and then continued the discussion among themselves about problems they have witnessed in society, such as violence against the elderly.
